Practice limited to sex therapy and relationship counselling, for couples and individuals.
SEX THERAPY
- Short term sex therapy based on the 'sensate focus' model is provided for the treatment of dysfunctions, including inhibited sexual desire, anorgasmia, painful intercourse, vaginismus, erection problems and premature ejaculation. Initial assessment includes screening to ensure that organic causes have been ruled out. When intensive intrapersonal psychotherapy is indicated, psychiatric or psychological referral is suggested.SEX COUNSELLING
- Counselling for other sexual concerns such as compulsive sexual behaviours (‘sexual addiction’), use of erotica (‘pornography’), differences in sexual desire and preferences, sexual fantasies and paraphilias,RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING
- Conjoint counselling is provided for couples experiencing interpersonal tensions, frequent conflict, differences in goals or attitudes, and specific problems such as extramarital involvements or separation. Reality therapy, 'fair fight' techniques, short term 'solution-focused' approaches, and written assignments are utilized, in order to clarify individual choices and mutual expectations, improve communication skills, and promote specific behavioural changes. Interpersonal counselling is ordinarily conjoint (both partners), but separate interviews take place during the initial assessment visit.DR. ROBERT LANGFORD

- It is requested that patients themselves call the office phone number directly and leave a voicemail message, so that they assume direct responsibility for initiating their appointment. Our office assistant will then phone back, to provide information and arrange an appointment time.
- Initial appointments may be made for couples or individuals, but Dr. Langford interviews each person separately at the initial visit. Follow-up appointments are ordinarily at intervals of 4-6 weeks, if follow up is desired and is appropriate. Couples in crisis are initially seen more intensively.
